Healthcare

The Healthcare category focuses on the essential needs of all community members to receive the best medical care and resources possible.

Identified Goals:

  • Create and maintain Live Well Norton

  • Recruit, educate and train EMTs

  • Establish Norton County Hospital as a regional healthcare provider

  • Promote healthy lifestyle programs

  • Integrate mental and behavioral health support into current healthcare system

  • Expand healthcare

  • Develop community kitchen open to the public

  • Provide additional medical services such as allergy clinics

  • Arrange access to mental health services and support

  • Educate, support and enforce drug abuse policies

  • Install drug task force to address drug abuse issues

  • Generate counseling hotline

 

Grants Given Totaling $143,032.55:

  • The Compassionate Friends received a grant in 2015 to form a chapter of the organization in Norton County.

  • Norton County Health Department received a grant in 2015 to create a website and social media sites. 

  • Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas received a grant in 2016 to install a touch board at the Frontier Development Center to allow for optimal learning for all individuals. 

  • Norton County Emergency Management received a grant in 2017 to purchase 10 automated external defibrillators to be placed in frequently-used buildings throughout the county.

  • Norton Regional Health Foundation received a grant in 2017 to fund the Armory Drive trail. 

  • Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas received a grant in 2017 to install a roll-in shower at one group home to increase accessibility. 

  • Compassionate Friends of Norton received a grant in 2017 to continue ongoing programs. 

  • Norton County Community Foundation received a grant in 2017 for the Physician Recruitment Fund to bring a new chiropractor to town with an office in the Heaton Building.

  • Compassionate Friends of Norton participated in the 2017 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas participated in the 2017 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton County Health Department participated in the 2017 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton Regional Health Foundation participated in the 2017 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton County Health Department received a grant in 2018 to update their sonicwall and firewall to assure compliance with HIPAA. 

  • Kansas Children’s Service League received a grant in 2018 to pilot a program to prevent adverse childhood experiences or mitigate their impact. 

  • Compassionate Friends of Norton participated in the 2018 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas participated in the 2018 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton CARES for the Elderly and Disabled participated in the 2018 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton County Health Department participated in the 2018 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton Regional Health Foundation participated in the 2018 Norton County Community Foundation Match Day to support ongoing programs. 

  • Norton City/County Economic Development and the Norton County Hospital received grants in 2018 and 2019 to recruit three new physicians to the county.

  • Norton County Rural Water District #1 received a grant in 2018 to purchase and install a standby generator for well water for residents of New Almelo. 

  • Norton County Health Department received a grant in 2019 to update signage on their building. 

  • Developmental Services of Northwest Kansas received a grant in 2019 to purchase an accessible shower chair and hydraulic stand-up lift for a group home. 

  • Norton County Health Department received a grant in 2019 to invest in the Lead Poisoning Prevention and Detection Program for Norton County. 

  • Norton Lions Charities Inc. received a grant in 2019 to purchase a vision screener and printer to test children and adults within the county.

  • Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center received a grant in 2019 to provide fuel, maintenance and supplies for the Mobile Child Advocacy Center and Mobile Therapy Unit that travels to Norton County.
